What is Pixel Streaming?

Pixel Streaming is a feature of Unreal Engine that runs your project on a server GPU and sends it to a web browser as live video, while mouse, keyboard and touch input travel back. Viewers get the full-quality experience without downloading anything or owning a powerful computer. Streampixel runs and scales that for you.

Is there an uptime guarantee?

No. The free plan is provided on a best-effort basis. When demand is high, viewers may wait in a short queue before a stream starts. For guaranteed capacity, institutions can buy a paid licence.

Where does it stream from?

During the pilot, all education projects stream from our APAC region in India. Viewers anywhere in the world can open them; the further a viewer is from India, the higher the delay.

Can viewers copy my project?

No. Your project runs on our GPU machine and viewers receive only a live video of it, while their mouse, keyboard and touch input is sent back. Your build, models, textures and code never reach their device, so there is nothing to download or extract.

Which GPUs do you use?

NVIDIA RTX cards with 32 GB of VRAM, in our own machines. Each stream uses one whole GPU.

Is it really free?

Yes. Verified students and partner institutions pay nothing, and students need no credit card. The plan is for learning and non-commercial work.

Who can join as a student?

Anyone currently enrolled at a college or university. Most students verify in a minute with their college email. If your college email is not recognised, a staff member at a partner institution can add you to a class list, and as a last resort you can upload a student ID for a manual check.

Are streaming minutes really unlimited?

Yes. There is no monthly allowance of minutes or hours that runs out. You can stream as often as you like. Each stream runs for up to 15 minutes and you have one live stream at a time; a viewer simply starts a new one when it ends. Once a month you can book a 60-minute showcase slot for a presentation or an open day.

What happens when lots of students stream at the same time?

Viewers may wait in a short queue until a GPU is free, then the stream starts on its own. Each stream still gets a whole NVIDIA RTX GPU.

Can I use it for freelance or client work?

No. The student plan is non-commercial. For paid work you need a regular Streampixel plan, and graduates get 50% off the Starter plan for their first 12 months.

What happens when I graduate?

You tell us your expected graduation month when you sign up. Access continues for six months after it, so your portfolio stays live while you job-hunt. After that you can move to Starter at 50% off for 12 months, and your projects are kept for 90 days.

How often do I need to re-verify?

Every six months. We send a confirmation to your college mailbox and one click renews your term.

What if I do not touch a project for a while?

Builds that nobody has streamed for 15 days go to sleep to free up space. One click wakes them again; the first stream after waking takes a little longer to start.

Which Unreal Engine projects work?

Unreal Engine 5 projects packaged for Windows with the Pixel Streaming plugin enabled, up to 10 GB. The documentation lists the supported engine versions and walks through packaging.

Where is the programme available?

Everywhere. It is free for verified university students and institutions in every country. Apply through the form on this site with your college email.

How do you verify students without their college email?

Staff at a partner institution upload a class list. Students on the list are verified automatically and their access follows the course dates.

Institutions

Is there an uptime guarantee?

No. The free plan is provided on a best-effort basis. When demand is high, viewers may wait in a short queue before a stream starts. For guaranteed capacity, institutions can buy a paid licence.

How can we see whether our students use it?

Every term we send your programme lead a one-page report: how many students are active, how many projects they published, how many hours they streamed and how many viewers opened their work.

What if our institution needs more than the free plan?

You can buy a paid licence on top of it: reserved GPUs so nobody waits in a queue, more concurrent users and projects, commercial and industry projects, or a private deployment on your own machines. Book a call and we will send a quote.

Can viewers copy my project?

No. Your project runs on our GPU machine and viewers receive only a live video of it, while their mouse, keyboard and touch input is sent back. Your build, models, textures and code never reach their device, so there is nothing to download or extract.

Can teachers use it on their own, without their institution?

No. The programme is for students enrolled at a university or college, and for institutions that partner with us. Teachers get free staff accounts through their institution's partnership.

What do teachers at a partner institution get?

Free staff accounts, a list of all their students' projects to open without installing anything, class list verification, and the Pixel Streaming lab module.

Is there teaching material?

Yes. We are writing a short lab module: packaging a project for Pixel Streaming, uploading it, adding web controls and presenting it. It will be free for any course to use, with a completion certificate for students.

Can our institution sign a formal agreement?

Yes. Partner institutions sign a short memorandum of understanding that covers verification, data handling and the student showcase. It costs the institution nothing.

How do you verify students without their college email?

Staff at a partner institution upload a class list. Students on the list are verified automatically and their access follows the course dates.
